The were many groups around in those far off days, if I listed them all out it would
take quite a few pages.
But It must also be remembered that because of us local lads keeping the dance halls
and clubs throbbing most nights the venue owners and agents were able to bring in
'guest' groups from nearby Liverpool and Manchester, groups that were beginning to
make a name for themselves with a new raw R&B type sound and we got to see them first
before the rest of the world went crazy over them, The Beatles, The Hollies, The
Fourmost, The Undertakers, The Big Three, the list is endless.
Ironically we shared the stage with The Beatles the very first time they played outside
of Liverpool, at the Bell Hall in Warrington on Friday 19th July 1962. We were the
first to witness a musical revolution that would change the world.
I have happy memories of sharing a stage with the
all the above and the likes of Joe Brown, Lulu and many more.
SO: If you have stories to tell let me know and
they can be added to these pages.
Courtesy of the BBC ‘Light Programme’ in the early sixties before VHF had been invented.
The Renegades, my favourite group, quite a good drummer, but there again, I’m biased.
The Flamingos, can you
name them all
The Vigilantes, a group we have shared a stage with many times.
